Native Fitness Training Instructor
Barbie Johnson (Cherokee) is the instructor for the Native Fitness Training. This popular training promotes the learning of new information, as well as skills and techniques that will enable participants to organize instruct and market a Native-specific fitness program to their communities.
Barbie is a certified fitness specialist with over 20 years experience in the health and fitness field. She holds certifications through the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM),the National Strength & Conditioning Association (NSCA), and the Cooper Institute for Aerobics Research, as well as through ACE, AFAA, ESA, NEDITA and the American Aerobic Association. She also has received advanced training in Health Promotion and Disease Prevention from the Institute for Aerobics Research. Currently, Barbie is the Director of Health Education for the Mescalero, Apache Tribe, and is the Fitness Coordinator for the Bureau of Indian Affairs’ Hot-Shot Firefighter Program in Mescalero. She has been conducting fitness workshops for Health Promotion Programs for over ten years.
