Native Women & Men's Wellness Conference

Please join us March 16-20, 2008 in beautiful Southern California!

“Finding Balance Through Our Traditional Wellness Paths”

HEALTH PROMOTION PROGRAMS at the University of Oklahoma proudly announces the 7th Native Women & Men’s Wellness Conference. This annual event is recognized as the largest wellness conference for Native and Indigenous people throughout North America.

This will be a powerful gathering of Native women and men walking a path of personal wellness and providing healthy support for people in need within their families, work settings and communities.

This conference provides both personal and professional development for health professionals working in Native communities, including clinicians, counselors, therapists, social workers, health educators, and community health representatives.

At the same time, workshop presentations and activities are designed to better inform and inspire tribal community leaders, health advocates and health consumers. We especially welcome parents, grandparents, and elders.  We have some wonderful workshops and presenters.

The conference theme, “Finding Balance Through Our Traditional Wellness Paths,” reminds us that our daily expression of wellness creates power within our  communities… power to live and power to lead!

Native family attending a wellness conferenceGeneral sessions, workshops, and wellness activities, as well as a variety of evening events, will highlight and enhance the power brought to us by using our traditional ways to help each of us reach a balanced life. Power in our communities has traditionally been expressed in many unique ways. Those living in a well way have provided the vision and leadership to create empowering environments where Native people can flourish. These communities encourage personal competence and resiliency, promote strong family values and interpersonal communication, provide opportunities for developing meaningful relationships, and celebrate the importance of tradition and spirituality in the Native way of life!

The presenters for this conference have been encouraged to provide interactive and experiential learning experiences for workshop participants. Together, we can work towards renewing our commitment to establishing healthy homes, healthy workplaces, and healthy communities. Attending this conference will allow you to connect with Native people who have chosen that commitment as a way of living and are willing to share their wisdom.

Please consider this your personal invitation to join us in sunny San Diego for this inspirational and powerful gathering. Your participation will help make native people and nations stronger.

This conference is designed as an Alcohol and Drug Free event!
